6th Artists' Tennis Tournament EMAX CUP
Last year's jubilee Artists' Tennis Tournament EMAX CUP gathered a record number of famous and popular Polish artists. Marcin Daniec and Maciej Dowbor joined a standard line-up of players visiting Szczecin Tournament.
2002 competition convinced the spectators that the artists take the duels serious. Expressing one's dissatisfaction with every lost ball or cheering on with shouts, seem to be quite natural during Emax Cup. The only satirists here, Marcin Daniec and Henryk Sawka, made a joke of their poor play. The ones who went through to the quarter-finals were: Marcin Daniec (which was a great success bearing in mind that he entered Pekao for the first time), Janusz Zaorski, Tadeusz Borowski (2002 Emax Cup finalist), Tomasz Gęsikowski (2002 winner), Karol Strasburger, Maciej Dowbor, an iron favourite Robert Rozmus, and Tomasz Stockinger. Tomasz Stockinger defeated two skilled Peters (Skarga and Cyrwus) in group matches, which was a surprise. Even more unexpected was his presence in semi-finals, after beating Tadeusz Borowski. However, their way to the final made Maciej Dowbor and Roibert Rozmus. The final duel added splendor to last year's Emax Cup. After Robert Rozmus had easily won the firs set, he neglected his opponent, and the result of the second set was up in the air. The match was splendid and fierce, stands full of spectators, and Marcin Daniec, who took up a role of the umpire, did a great job. Objective and fair umpiring, witty comments on the play made that final unforgettable. In the finals Robert Rozmus beat Maciej Dowbor by 6/1, 6/4, and this year he is the one to defend the title of the best tennis player among artists.
